In today’s high-tech learning environment, the library as a primary learning resource is the fulcrum of support for the entire range of activities in an educational campus. In present knowledge based society, the library as an Information Resource Centre is an integral part of the education process and plays a pivotal role in promoting and improving the education standards, research and in overall development of the society.

The B.K. Birla College Central Library since its establishment in the year 1972 has been determined to satisfy the diverse information needs of its users. Today with its finest infrastructure, rich collection and with ICT enabled functioning the library has transformed itself into a hybrid automated system with online resources and services.

Historical Background

The B.K. Birla College Central Library came in to existence with the establishment the college in Kalyan in the year 1972. During its starting days the Library was located in the main building of the college with a limited collection of 1824 books and 100 members. It was shifted to its new separate building in the year 1990. Today the B.K. Birla College is one among the few colleges under the University of Bombay having a separate library building with a vast collection of more than 70,000 books covering the various filled of interest in social sciences, humanities and pure sciences. It has separate collection of more than 1000 Audio / Video Materials like CD’s, DVD’s etc. It has subscription to over 120 periodicals which includes research journals and popular magazines of general interest. The central library caters to the information needs of more than 9000 students, 250 staff as well as 100 external members. Our library has been a recognized study center for Bachelor of Library & Information Science Course courses run by Y.C.M.O.U, Nashik. since 1996-97.
